Delight in the charm of a bygone era at the historic Mansell House. Stroll the picturesque award-winning Gardens. Sit on the wooden bench beside a noble 125-year oak tree. Walking tours of this historic home and gardens are available Monday through Friday—10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Mansell House

Owned by the city of Alpharetta and preserved by the Alpharetta Historical Society—a testament to this north Georgia community’s rich heritage—the Mansell House’s homespun feeling of warmth is created by this Queen Anne-styled farmhouse’s original pine floors, golden-colored walls, silk drapes, period antiques, accessories, wooden mantles, fireplaces, and a vintage piano.

But, The turn-of-the-century ambiance of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry Mansell’s original farmhouse, which was built in 1910 from timbers on the Mansell farm, is also reflected in the Memorial Garden of the historic home—relocated to two acres in Wills park in 1992.

Mansell Garden

The colorful blooms and fragrances of several seasonal gardens lure visitors outside to the historic Mansell Home grounds, comprising several perennial beds, a flagstone patio, gazebo, arbor, and cherry trees. The Alpharetta Garden Club designs and maintains the award-winning gardens—that were designated as the First-Place Winner of the Historic Gardens Award for the State of Georgia and for the Deep South Region of the Garden Clubs of America.

Mansell House Gazebo

Guided by the motto, “Preserving the Past, in the Present, for the Future, the Alpharetta Historical Society—a volunteer non-profit 501(c) (3) organization—headquartered in the 1912 Mansell House, manages the homestead. They also maintain an active role in the collection, preservation, and dissemination of genealogical records and accurate historical information related to the city of Alpharetta and old Milton County. Funding for the recent renovations of the Historic Mansell House and Gardens, completed in early 2009, were funded in part by money generated from events booked at the Mansell House and Gardens, the Wedding Alliance of North Georgia (WANG), and the organizations inaugural Fall Wedding Expo that was held at the Mansell House in October, 2008.
